Fear Not Death

Fear Not Death by Darryl Houston Smith 10/10/2025 Lowell, Massachusetts

But fear not death, oh soul, so frail and small,

For in his embrace, you'll find oblivion's thrall.

A final sleep, where dreams no longer haunt,

And consciousness, a fading, distant taunt. Beyond the veil, where time has lost its thread,

The stars will whisper secrets to the dead.

No light, no shadow—only endless peace,

Where all the chains of mortal striving cease. Yet in that void, a quiet dread may creep,

A hunger waking where the dead still sleep.

No warmth, no mercy in that endless shade,

Only the cold where every soul must fade. So close your eyes and sink without a fight,

Into the silence of eternal night.

For death is but a shadow’s cruel jest,

Where even light itself finds no rest.
