A Personal Introduction
Before diving into the usual details, I want to share something personal that has significantly influenced my journey. I’ve been diagnosed with a dissociative disorder, and while it presents unique challenges, I’ve transformed those challenges into powerful strengths (e.g., heightened empathy, unique creative insights, resilience itself).
This experience often leads to moments where I feel disconnected from my body, as if I’m observing my life from the sidelines. There are times when I lose track of time, only to realize that minutes or even hours have passed without my awareness. It’s akin to watching a captivating film about my life instead of merely participating in it. This unique perspective allows me to process overwhelming experiences in ways that many might find difficult to understand.
I’ve had the honor of speaking about my condition at Salem State University, which has been a pivotal experience in my journey. This also inspired me to create my book of poems, Resilience. Although I was given the opportunity to be featured at the prestigious Frankfurt Book Fair, I chose to decline because this journey is about something much deeper. Resilience may not resonate with everyone, but I believe it has the potential to speak to many.
About the Author
As a former professional hockey writer, my passion for rock and roll sparked my transition into poetry. While exploring the life of Jim Morrison, the lead singer and chief lyricist of The Doors, in Paris, I discovered his deep admiration for 19th-century French poets like Baudelaire and Rimbaud. Their works fueled my desire to explore and refine my own poetic voice.
I am currently working on a book that examines the cultural impact of Jim Morrison and The Doors. I live in Lowell, Massachusetts, with my wife and our dog, and I am excited about the work ahead.
